Kilimanjaro Expedition
A journey of resilience, breathtaking vistas, and personal triumph at 19,341 feet.
More Than Just a Climb
Climbing Kilimanjaro is the adventure of a lifetime. It demands respect, preparation, and the right support team. At Still Waters Safaris, we don't just guide you to the summit; we ensure you get there safely, ethically, and with a level of comfort that allows you to focus on the achievement.
The Routes
Lemosho Route
Widely considered the most beautiful route on Kilimanjaro. It begins on the remote western side, trekking through pristine rainforests where Colobus monkeys play, before crossing the Shira Plateau. Its longer itinerary allows for excellent acclimatization and high summit success rates.
Highlights
- Scenery, Photography, High Success
- Difficulty: Medium-High

Machame Route
The favorite choice for the adventurous spirit. It is steeper and more challenging than Lemosho but rewards climbers with stunning diverse landscapes. The route is famous for the 'Climb High, Sleep Low' profile which aids acclimatization.
Highlights
- Adventurers, Challenge Seekers
- Difficulty: High

Northern Circuit
The longest and most exclusive route on the mountain. It circles the entire north side of Kibo, offering 360-degree views and total solitude away from the crowds. Because of its length, it has the highest summit success rate of any route.
Highlights
- Privacy, Views, Highest Success
- Difficulty: Medium

Rongai Route
The only route approaching from the north near the Kenyan border. It is drier and less wooded, making it the perfect choice during the rainy season. It offers a unique wilderness experience with the possibility of seeing wildlife like elephant and buffalo.
Highlights
- Rainy Season, Solitude
- Difficulty: Medium

Marangu Route
The oldest and most established route. It is the only path that offers sleeping huts in dormitory style instead of camping. While the slope is gradual, the rapid ascent profile actually makes it harder to acclimatize than longer routes.
Highlights
- Those who dislike camping
- Difficulty: Medium (Acclimatization: Hard)

Umbwe Route
Steep, direct, and difficult. Umbwe is a vertical ascent through the jungle designed only for experienced mountaineers who are confident in their ability to acclimatize quickly. It is the shortest route but arguably the toughest.
Highlights
- Expert Climbers, Speed
- Difficulty: Very High
