In Her Own Words

About Heike

Africa stole my heart 27 years ago. I have been going back ever since, camera in hand, chasing light and wild beauty across the continent.

From the skies to the savannah

For 40 years I worked as a flight attendant, most of that time in First Class with VIP guests from every corner of the world. I learned how to read a room, how to make strangers feel at ease, and how small details turn a journey into something unforgettable. Now I bring that same care to the women who travel with me. I no longer serve drinks at 35,000 feet; I hand you a camera at sunrise and whisper, “Look, there, by the acacia tree.”

Why I lead these safaris

I am a wildlife photographer because I cannot imagine doing anything else. I have spent countless hours in hides, jeeps, and dusty camps across Africa, waiting for the moment when an elephant's ear catches the golden light, or a cheetah lifts her head from the grass. Through experience I believe women see the wild differently, softer perhaps, but no less powerful. I want to help you find that voice, grow your confidence and lift you to the level of photography skills you always wanted.

More than a photo trip

For me, a safari is not about ticking off species or filling memory cards. It is about slowing down until the bush lets you in. It is about the Maasai guide who shares his grandfather's stories, the silence before a lioness moves, the moment you realize you have been holding your breath. My years among people from every culture taught me that the best images come from connection, not just proximity. That is what I build into every trip.

Who travels with me

Women who are curious, not just ambitious. Who want to learn, laugh, and maybe cry a little when a wild dog pup stumbles into the sunlight. Whether you shoot with a Nikon flagship or a phone you are still figuring out, I will meet you where you are. My safaris are designed for women because I know how rare it is to find spaces where we can be both learners and leaders, vulnerable and brave.

When You Travel

This journey runs in mid-November, the start of Tanzania's green season, and that is a deliberate choice. These are not the peak migration months, and a passing afternoon shower is part of the experience. What you gain in return is what most photographers never get: emerald plains instead of dust, skies stacked with dramatic cloud, far fewer vehicles at every sighting, and the rare chance to photograph wildlife in the rain. As the southern Serengeti and Ndutu begin to green, the herds drift in and the predators follow. For a photographer, green season is not a compromise. It is a quieter, richer, more cinematic Africa.

Daily Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha

Forest Hill HotelLunch & Dinner

Your driver meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport for the scenic hour's drive to Arusha, framed by Mt. Meru and rolling coffee plantations. We introduce the team, walk through your journey, and settle into Forest Hill Hotel, a gentle prelude to the wild that awaits.

Day 2: Into Tarangire National Park

Conserve Safari CampFull Board

After breakfast, we drive to Tarangire, famous for its giant baobabs and some of the largest elephant herds in East Africa. An afternoon game drive in golden light offers your first chance to capture elephants along the river, giraffes against the sky, and, with some luck, lions and leopards at rest.

Day 3: Tarangire National Park

Conserve Safari CampFull Board

A full day of photographic exploration in Tarangire, with a flexible schedule built around the light and the wildlife. From the soft hues of early morning to the rich colours of sunset, we work animal behaviour, intimate portraits, and dramatic landscapes among the park's baobabs and winding riverbeds.

Day 4: Lake Eyasi: The Datoga

Ziwani LodgeFull Board

We travel to Lake Eyasi and spend time with the Datoga, skilled pastoralists and blacksmiths. A cultural day rich in portrait opportunities : faces, hands, craft, and daily life, guided gently so the connection comes before the camera.

Day 5: Lake Eyasi: The Hadzabe

Gibb's FarmFull Board

An early start with the Hadzabe, one of the last hunter-gatherer communities in Africa. Move with them at first light, photographing a way of life largely unchanged for millennia, then retreat to the green calm of Gibb's Farm.

Day 6: Southern Serengeti, Ndutu

Ndutu Kati Kati Tented CampFull Board

We enter the southern Serengeti and the Ndutu plains. As the short rains green the grasslands, the herds gather and the predators follow, the start of calving season's drama, with wide cinematic skies and far fewer vehicles than the north.

Day 7: Southern Serengeti, Ndutu

Ndutu Kati Kati Tented CampFull Board

A full day in Ndutu: early breakfast, morning game drive in the best light, a rest through the harsh midday, then back out for the golden afternoon. Big cats, newborns, and the great gatherings of the plains are the focus.

Day 8: Serengeti National Park

Conserve Safari CampFull Board

Into the heart of the Serengeti: endless plains, kopjes, and resident predators. We shape the day around sightings and light, with the space and time a photography-led safari is built to give.

Day 9: Serengeti National Park

Conserve Safari CampFull Board

Another full day in the Serengeti to deepen your portfolio: lion prides, cheetah on the move, and the quiet moments between. Time to apply everything you've practised, with Heike beside you in the vehicle.

Day 10: Serengeti to Arusha

Gran Melia ArushaFull Board

A final morning game drive before a scenic flight back to Arusha. We close the safari in the comfort of Gran Melia Arusha, with time to rest, review images, and reflect on the journey.

Day 11: Departure from Arusha

DepartureBreakfast

After breakfast, your journey through Tanzania's wild heart concludes with a transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure. Memory cards full,, and an eye changed.

Your Camera

Heike is a Nikon user, but any camera brand, or even a phone, is welcome. If you arrive with a DSLR or mirrorless DX or FX camera, we assume you have a basic understanding of your camera's menu and settings.

No. Heike is a Nikon user, but any camera brand, or even a phone, is welcome. If you bring a DSLR or mirrorless camera, we assume a basic understanding of its menu and settings so we can focus on seeing and shooting.

Why November? Isn't that the green season?

Yes, deliberately. November is green season: not peak migration, with possible afternoon showers, but lush plains, dramatic skies, far fewer vehicles, and the rare chance to photograph wildlife in the rain as the herds gather around Ndutu.

How many guests share a vehicle?

Only three guests per safari vehicle, so every photographer has the space, comfort, and flexibility to shoot, move, and change position freely.
